Last night was the Flashforward Film Festival and as I predicted, Leo Burnett won the rubber arrow in the naigation catagory. I received many nice comments from Lynda, the judges and many other flashers I’ve met here. The show of the finalists was full of many amazing pieces and very inspiring.
As for the conference, the opening keynote by Adobe showed off a couple sneak previews for what’s coming in the next version of the Flash IDE. There’s a new tool being developed by Robert Penner that allows designers to animate clips on the timeline then convert the animations to actionScript 3 code.
A few great sessions I’ve attended include:
- Intro to Wallop (had to sign a NDA so can’t say much about this other than it’s awesome)
- Sound Visualization Using Flash, Jared Ficklin
- Mashup Baby!, Mario Klingemann
- After Effects for Flash, learned some good keying techniques
- Video for Flash, good tips on optimizing FLAs
- 3D in Flash by Seb Lee-Delisle
Many session topics are quite heavy in the programming themes such as Flex and Apollo, but I see that as the way Flash is heading anyway. If anything, it makes for a much more useful conference, but for designers it’s a bit less inspiring than the broader focused FITC. I’m looking forward to many other great topics being covered today.
The best part of this conference is the opportunity to meet many amazing people whose work I admire.

Well while you and Jana are having a wonderful time me and Matt have had to endure Hugh’s wrath. Hurry back to work you punk! I can stand anymore of Zions Code of Ethics. haha
Contratulations my friend. You are truly exceptional.
It’s an honor just to be nominated… you’ll be back there next year.
Greetings from a Utah startup. Cool blog.
