Fantasy Football

It’s football season and my Fantasy football team is stacked. I’m in a league that’s run on the new EA Sports Fantasy Football website. It’s a decent site but lacking a few key features that would make it worth the price they charge. One is the ability to play double headers, with 11 teams in our league that means one team has a bye each week. The customization options for scoring are great, but when it comes to the schedule it’s very limited. The past 3 years we’ve played on a homemade site built and programmed in PERL by a friend of mine who retired from Fantasy Football this year for ecclesiastical and woman reasons. We had complete control over scoring and schedule, but many other problems to worry about. This year the addition of live scoring and a basically a bug-free site is quite nice.

Here is the team that landed me in first place after week one:

QB Jeff Garcia (Cle)
RB LaDainian Tomlinson (SD)
RB Curtis Martin (NYJ)
RB Tiki Barber (NYG)
RB Kevan Barlow (SF)
WR Darrell Jackson (Sea)
DEF New York Jets (NYJ)
K Sebastian Janikowski (Oak)

Bench:
QB Tim Rattay (SF)
RB Moe Williams (Min)
RB Tyrone Wheatley (Oak)
WR Jimmy Smith (Jac)
WR Larry Fitzgerald (Ari)
WR Peerless Price (Atl)

Lakers win 74 – 73

Tonight I was witness, in my opinion, to one of the most amazing finishes in NBA history. Two teams who combined have won the NBA championship for the past 5 years, the LA Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs are tied in the West Semifinals series 2 – 2. The Lakers blew a 16 point lead in the 4th and managed to stay up by 1 with less than 5 seconds left, Tim Duncan gets double teamed and throws up an shot, and I swear he didn’t even look at the hoop, from just behind the foul line and nails it. Spurs up by one with 0.4 (that’s point four) seconds left in the game. Spurs win right? Not so fast. Gary Fisher threw up one of the most amazing game winning shots I’ve ever seen, and in one of the biggest games (in my opinion) of the 2004 playoffs. I yelled so loud my throat still hurts.
I think Shaq summed it up the best in his post game interview, when asked, “What do you make of this amazing finish?” Shaq replies, “One lucky shot deserves another.”

Preseason Football

Oh how great is was to get home today flip on the tube and hear the good old frendly voices of John and Al again. Preseason or not, I’ve been jonesn’ all Summer for some Monday Night Football. Even with only a few of the preseason games being televised, the cold sweats and withdrawls should end tonight.

Michael Vick Cursed

Apperantly, Michael Vick was unaware of the dredded Madden Cover Curse. Maybe next season EA sports will return to the generic computer rendered football players for the cover. Scary stuff.
